Hello,
I’m Mr. Kenneth Nakano.
My martial arts journey began at a very young age when my parents enrolled me in an Aikido class. Growing up, I was fascinated by samurai and ninja shows from Japan, which fueled my passion for martial arts. Since then, I’ve trained in a variety of martial arts, including foil (European fencing), kendo, judo, qigong, and of course, taekwondo.
I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. If I were good at singing, I’d be teaching people to sing. But as a skilled martial artist, I chose to make the world better by teaching martial arts. I also find that I’m a kinesthetic learner, and martial arts allows me to learn and teach through movement, which is something I truly enjoy.
What I love most about teaching martial arts is seeing people become better versions of themselves. Watching my students gain confidence and learn to move with assurance is incredibly rewarding. It’s about helping them discover how to learn and grow confidently.
Martial arts has had a profound impact on my personal growth, especially through the ATA Legacy program. The lessons I learned in the program have influenced my approach not only in the dojang but also in my professional life outside of martial arts. Being a martial artist is about how you live and move through the world, not just about the techniques you learn.
As an instructor at Pride Martial Arts, my goal is to make the world a better place by helping people improve themselves. I strive to build strong relationships with my students and their families by showing genuine care for them as individuals and taking the time to learn about who they are.
The value I hope to instill in my students is a drive for excellence. I want them to set high standards for themselves and work diligently to achieve their goals. To continue developing myself as a martial artist and instructor, I focus on continuous learning, setting new goals, and celebrating the successes I accomplish along the way.
One of the fun reasons I started martial arts was my fascination with the samurai and ninja shows I grew up watching. Those early inspirations still fuel my passion today. My favorite moments in teaching are when I see students transform—not just in their technique but in their confidence and mindset. Seeing someone truly become a better version of themselves is why I love what I do.
